AIS (Automatic Identification System) transponders broadcast vessel identity, position, speed, and course to other ships and shore stations. EKS Marine Electronics provides Class A (SOLAS mandatory) and Class B AIS transponder sales, installation, programming, and technical support.
AIS is now an integral part of maritime safety infrastructure worldwide. Class A AIS transponders are mandatory under SOLAS for all vessels over 300 GRT on international voyages and all passenger ships regardless of size. They transmit vessel data every 2-10 seconds when underway.
Class B AIS transponders serve smaller commercial vessels, recreational craft, and vessels not covered by SOLAS AIS carriage requirements. They transmit less frequently but still provide valuable collision avoidance and traffic management data.
